Fall at David Arms Gallery in Leiper's Fork

A few images from my annual pilgrimage to my favorite art gallery, David Arms, in Leiper's Fork, Tennessee.

This gorgeous urn was filled with wheat strands sitting on an old metal table on the porch at the gallery. I had to photograph it.

Pumpkin palooza on the porch.

I surely will miss the pumpkins until next year.

I always snap an image as I leave David Arms Gallery. Who wouldn't want to snap a shot of this old plank building with its rusty metal roof and adorable reindeer adorning the facade. Hope you enjoyed these images as much as I did snapping them. ENJOY!

Hello Fall . . . Come On In

Yes, I have been absent for a few weeks waiting out the week after week of rainfall the past few weeks. So over rain right now. While Summer continues to linger, Fall is creeping in. Pumpkins are popping up everywhere. As I walked into the David Arms Gallery in Leiper's Fork Sunday, this beautiful foliage stopped me in my tracks. So irresistible, I had to grab my camera after I shopped and capture a few pics.

As I was heading back to my car after shopping, I passed the David Arms Gallery and couldn't resist a pic of the outside of the shop. Look at that tin roof and the barn wood siding. If that wasn't enough to entice you in, they added a deer with antlers at the pitch in the roof. Can't you just imagine sitting on that bench with the fire warming you up in late Fall.

Next stop, The Copper Fox, right next door with its cool arts and crafts. Last Fall the back porch had ornamental cabbage taking center stage. The purple really pops with the orange pumpkin.

Jump ahead to this year and the back porch of The Copper Fox has mums and pumpkins sitting pretty. I discreetly unlocked the back door and stole a few pics.

As I circled back around to the front of the shop, the front porch caught my eye. Mums and pumpkins paired. My favorite Fall combo. It makes me smile.

Look at this photo of the front of The Copper Fox. It just screams come in and shop! Don't you just love that yellow door.

This gorgeous blue planter caught my eye as I entered The Copper Fox through the side door. I wasn't going to put it in this post, but it kept calling out to me.

Oh Fall, how I love thee. I can't wait for cooler days and crisp nights. I know the next stop is Winter, but Fall's colors are just so mesmerizing to me, so I welcome it with open arms. ENJOY!

Fall Approaches

Fall is approaching here in the States. You can feel it in the air. While a heat wave grips a portion of the Eastern United States, there are still signs of Fall on the horizon. Last week's chill conjured up images of leaves in bright reds, yellows and oranges. Pumpkins are popping up in storefronts. Fall signs to 'Gather' and 'Give Thanks' are everywhere. Soon the nights will be chilly and the days will be brisk. Heaping mugs of cider will warm our bones. A steady hustle and bustle will be heard in every pumpkin patch and farm stand. I can't wait for the season to begin, so here's a little something to get us in the mood. I captured this image some 15-20 years ago in Brown County, Indiana, at the height of the Fall season. ENJOY!

Ode to A Pumpkin

Everywhere the pumpkin! The one unequivocal sign of Fall has to be the pumpkin. You see them in storefronts and front yards and porches. You see them on mantels and hearths and tabletops. You see them stacked or sitting side by side. There are pumpkins painted completely black and pumpkins covered in velvet. There are pumpkins picked in pumpkin patches at the local farms. There are pumpkin carvings and pumpkin glows. There are pumpkin spice lattes and pumpkin spice cupcakes. There are pumpkin breads and pumpkin beers. And least we forget, the most supreme pumpkin of all has to be the pumpkin pie.

I wanted to share one of my favorite pumpkin images with a little watercolor and ink pencil detail. I love all the shapes and sizes of the pumpkins and there's even a gourd thrown in. I captured this image in 2016 at Cheekwood Botanical Gardens Fall Harvest Festival. I hope you like it. By the way, I'm covering all things Halloween and Fall, in case you haven't made a note of it yet. Stand by, more is coming. ENJOY!

Cornucopia

CORNUCOPIA

Bright orange leaves fall softly to the ground
Pots filled with red and yellow mums dot the landscape
Candlelit pumpkins flicker aimlessly in the night

Crisp breezes send wicked shivers down our spine
Apple cider heaped with cinnamon warm our aching bones
Candy corn fills little buckets on All Hallowed's Eve

Black cats hidden in stealth creep out into the night
Witches dart through the sky casting black shadows across the moon
Forgotten souls unearth their corpses from ghastly chambers

As Fall sets in, so does All Hallowed's Eve.

I gathered up a few words to help you in conjuring up the season and all its wonders. Halloween is fast approaching and Fall has arrived in all its glory. In some areas of the States, cold nights have taken hold giving way to snowy landscapes. Here in the South, Fall is gearing up for its last hooray. I truly love this season, but even more so the peak of it. ENJOY!

Pumpkin House & Patch

What a fantastic idea to craft a small house completely out of pumpkins and a thatched straw roof. The kiddos loved it as they ran in and out at Cheekwood. There were piles of pumpkins laying all around it in a pumpkin patch fashion. It was a popular area for everyone. It just occurred to me one could make a smaller version of this for a Fall decor display. Oooohhhh! ENJOY!

Fall's Bounty

The holidays are almost upon us and with Thanksgiving comes roast turkey and dressing, sweet potatoes and green bean casserole, and that ever present pumpkin pie with heaping spoonfuls of whipped cream. Next Thursday marks our Thanksgiving holiday celebration. The meaning of which oftentimes gets lost in the height of the day's festivities around the table. And yet I tend to think we all remember at least once throughout the day the burdens our forefathers weathered in those bygone days. As I ventured throughout the small historical town of Leiper's Fork last weekend, I noticed the remnants of Fall's bounty all around me from the beautiful purple hues of the large ornamental cabbages to the deep oranges of the leftover pumpkins. ENJOY!

Happy Halloween!

Glowing jack o lanterns dot the landscape on this spooky night.
Blustery winds shake the leaves and shiver your limbs.
A chill brings thoughts of ghosts and goblins creeping in.
Costume clad kiddos tote their sugar laden treat bags.
Doorbells and trick or treat greetings permeate the darkness.
Pumpkin spiced drinks and gooey candy treats await.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Pumpkins, Cheekwood Botanical Gardens

Pumpkins were scattered throughout Cheekwood Saturday as we walked and photographed the grounds. It was a beautiful day for a visit to the gardens.

I love Fall. Pumpkins are one of my favorite things about Fall. ENJOY!

Welcome Autumn

HELLO AUTUMN. Come on in.
We are ready for you here in the South.
We await your crisp Autumn days filled with vivid blue skys.
We are anxious to carve the pumpkins and stack the hay bales.
We can almost hear the spooks in the haunted houses and smell the spiced cider as it is poured.

Most of all, we await your bright reds, oranges and golden yellows that transform our landscapes.
So, come in Autumn. You are welcome here. ENJOY!

Autumn Changes

As the weather cools and nights grow longer,
the flowers and plants at Yew Dell Gardens will wither and die,
Fall sets in bringing with it a chill and then a frost,
One final hoorah brings leaves of bright reds and yellows,
And finally, as though in protest, they fall away to the earth.

The sunflowers have wilted and hang dead from their stalks.
The last remains of the pumpkins and ghourds in the garden lay as though forgotten.
The Black Eyed Susans bright yellow pedals are dried and crusty.

Fear not dear friends,
for as Autumn passes through to Winter,
children wonder the lanes gathering candies to eat on All Hallowed's Eve,
tables will be set in earnest with Thanksgiving meals,
Christmas parties will take place throughout the community,
New Year's Eve brings champagne flowing and crystal balls to drop,
the frivolity of the holiday season will prevail. ENJOY!

Yew Dell Gardens

All of the images from this week were taken at Yew Dell Gardens in Crestwood, Kentucky. Here's a simple collage of some of the images I captured last Sunday at Yew Dell.

Everyone have a fantastic weekend. The weather here in the Bluegrass State has been gorgeous all week with 'no' humidity and cool temps at night with beautiful blue sky days. Oh how blessed. Are you enjoying your first week of Fall? ENJOY!

Ode to a Pumpkin

It is that time of year. Are you seeing them everywhere you turn? Pumpkins. In shop windows, on front porches, in the pumpkin patch, in the front yard, on the sidewalk. Sitting on tables, sitting on chairs, sitting on patios. In, on and sitting everywhere.

There are carved pumpkins, painted pumpkins, appliqued pumpkins. There are pumpkin lattes, pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread. There are orange pumpkins, black pumpkins, silver pumpkins. There are tall skinny pumpkins, short fat pumpkins, huge obese pumpkins sitting on their side. The pumpkin is the very essence of Fall in every way it is displayed, eaten and enjoyed. And so goes my Ode to a Pumpkin. And yes, I have pumpkins decorating my patio, my tables and even in my home office. ENJOY!

Jack O Lantern Spectacular, Louisville, KY

Just a little photo I took from the Jack O Lantern Spectacular held at Iroquois Park in south Louisville tonight. The Spectacular features an art show like setting with a quarter mile of illuminated jack o lanterns. More than 5,000 jack o lanterns are lit up along a path with large feature pumpkins displayed throughout the walk. Countries such as Asia, the Carribbean, Italy, Ireland and many others were featured. The last section before the end of the walk featured the University of Louisville basketball team with Rick Pitino. And right at the end was a section on United States Presidents. But my favorite of the entire walk just might be this lion. Isn't he magnificent? ENJOY!

Brown County Fall

I thought a little color just might be the order of the day. Outside we have a beautiful blue sky, a balmy 80 degrees, very low humidity and a nice breeze. OMG! How happy am I. Finally, a decent weekend is ahead. And while I've been under the weather the better part of this week, I am going to try and get out this weekend and take some photos. For now, this Fall scene I took Autumn 2011 while walking around Brown County's, Nashville, Indiana, will have to do. I can hardly wait to start decorating for Fall, but I suppose I should wait a few more weeks at least. What's not to love about Fall. Pumpkins, gourds, squashes, wreaths, fall leaves. Not to mention skeletons and goblins and ghouls and the like for the most important event in Fall . . . Halloween. ENJOY!

Fall Days!

Taking a quick look back, I seriously have to say that Fall was great this year. With its bright yellows, oranges and occasional reds. With its pumpkins and farm markets. With it's leaf strewn roads and it's brightly colored mums. With it's beautifully adorned trees and bright yellow goldenrod. Yes, it was a great Fall, but now it's time to move on to a new season, Winter. I don't mind Winter so much at first because you have Christmas and New Year's which helps break up the gloomy monotony. And there's even Valentine's Day in mid February. I'll try to get out to Bernheim this week and perhaps take a quick trip up to Mustatatuck and take some picks to show you how things are doing here in the lower Midwest. In the meantime, stay warm and I hope you enjoy this collage of some of my favorite Fall pics. ENJOY!

Color Splash!

Just a little bit of color from one of the pics I took in Brown County last weekend. Hope your weekend is going well. The weather here is gorgeous! ENJOY!

Pumpkin Mania!

Fall is going by so fast this year. I truly can't believe that it will be over soon. Once the leaves peak and fall, I know fall is not officially over but it feels that way to me. We really need to do something to spruce up early November to hold us over until Thanksgiving. Any suggestions would be appreciated. And oh, least I forget, I'm ready for the weekend. ENJOY!

Purple Haze!

Well, I felt a slight change of pace might be in order so I'm spreading a little "purple haze" to brighten your weekend. I mean seriously, I know you're inundated with orange and red and yellow from the Fall colors, so why not a little purple. This beautiful cabbage was growing alongside a gorgeous purple painted pumpkin sitting next to the sidewalk in Nashville, Indiana, today as I was strolling by. Naturally I had to stop and take a few pics. ENJOY!
