Cypress Creek NWR, Cache River System, Illinois

These are Tupelo trees knee deep in the swamp of Cypress Creek National Wildlife Refuge. You'll find this totally cool place to visit in southernmost Illinois. I found it on my way back from a trip to the UP in Michigan. You should make a point to visit this area. You'll swear you're in the swamps of the Louisiana Bayous. We had sunshine today for a pleasant change. Have a wonderful weekend. ENJOY!

Mermet Lake, Southern Illinois

Several years ago I made my way home from a week long trip to the Upper Peninsula in Michigan via southern Illinois. Just as I arrived at Mermet Lake the sun was setting. I decided to take a quick photo. Mermet is in the area of the Cache River System in southern Illinois. Nearby is Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge, a terrific area to view swamps comparable to the swamps of the Louisiana Bayou Country.
