To all the Chicken lovers out there, this post is definitely for you! While visiting the Smokies in May of last year, I spotted a checkered board chicken, or three actually, lazying about on the lawn next to the Oconaluftee Visitor Center. Turns out they are Dominique Chickens. Dominique Chickens or Pilgrim Fowl were considered America's very first Chicken breed originating during the colonial period. If you buy brown eggs at the market, they are probably from a Dominique Chicken. They are not only breeded for their egg production but also for their meat. I can't believe I never had seen a Dominique Chicken until my visit to the Smokies. Amazing. I love their checkered pattern. Too cute. ENJOY!

Red Maple, GSMNP
As I approached the Oconaluftee Visitor Center in Cherokee, North Carolina, on the eastern most side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, this gorgeous red Maple Tree greeted me with stunning red leaves.
As I stopped at the visitor center, I noticed I wasn't the only one capturing images of this beautiful red Maple. Others were stopping to photograph it as well. So beautiful. ENJOY!
