Rustic Barn, Leavenworth, IN

Alongside the rural route which leads to Leavenworth, Indiana, situated way back off of the road, sits this rustic old barn and lean to abandoned long past its usefulness.

Literally and figuratively put out to pasture. Bygone days find many old barns such as this one still standing long past their prime. And yet, discovered by a photographer who understands simple beauty. Seasons continue to weather its wooden planks. Rainy days further erode away its metal roof. Time slowly carves away at its exterior. Yet, its bones hold fast to the earth as though fastened there just yesterday, not wanting to let go of life just yet. ENJOY!

Reflections, Green River

It was a breezy day as I made the drive to Leavenworth, Indiana, a few Sundays past. I felt the urge to stop along the Green River to take a few photos.

While perusing my archive I noticed the reflections in the water on several of the images and decided to do some cropping. And this is what appeared before my very eyes. And I, for one, simply love it. Sadly, Winter is starting to take its hold here in Kentucky. The beauty of Fall is fading. Hope your weekend is going well. ENJOY!

Horseshoe Bend, Leavenworth, Indiana

Weeks ago, I spent a Sunday afternoon driving the back road to Leavenworth, Indiana. I wanted to see the Fall leaves along the drive and at the top of the bluff where the small town of Leavenworth Indiana sits. The tightest 'bend' on the Ohio River called Horseshoe Bend can be seen from this small southern Indiana town.

I stood looking over the 'bend' at the bar which is downstairs from the Overlook Restaurant. It was a beautiful Fall day and I wasn't the only one who had taken the drive as many people were out both in cars and on motorcycles.

Before heading back to Louisville, I captured several images of barges making their way up the Ohio east towards Louisville. Soon they will encounter the McAlpine Locks and Dam where they will enter and exit in order to pass over the Falls of the Ohio.

Of note, the small town of Leavenworth which originally sat directly on the banks of the Ohio River, was devastated during the '37 Flood and was completely relocated to its current location on this bluff overlooking the Ohio River and 'Horseshoe Bend'.

I stopped for a brief few moments to take in the Green River which follows alongside the road along the drive to Leavenworth.

I hope everyone is having a fantastic week. Today brought news of the holiday trees making their way to downtown Louisville for 'Light Up Louisville' next week and also to Rockefeller Center in Manhattan for the traditional lighting of the tree. Just two of the many opening ceremonies held to ring in the holiday season. YEP, it's a coming. ENJOY!

Old Barn, Scenic Southern Indiana

As an outdoor photographer, I envision myself with brush in hand drawing my images either with pencil or watercolor paints onto a very large canvas giving them new life. And then sadly, after much reflection, I am brought back to reality. I am a photographer. I can't draw a lick, and seriously, I've tried. Last Sunday, I drove the scenic route along the back roads to Leavenworth, Indiana. At Leavenworth, standing high up on a hill, you look down at the scenery and see the Ohio River as it snakes a horseshoe bend in the southern Indiana and northern Kentucky landscape. I promise I'll share images I captured of this landscape later. Today, however, I wanted to share with you an image I captured of an old dilapidated barn which is situated next to the road along this scenic route.

Having faced the reality that I'll never be an artist, I still have my imaging software, which at times, comes close to the effect I aspire to draw on canvas. My software of choice on this day was Paint. Keep in mind Paint is limited, in my opinion, but a worthy opponent in the image editing software arena. As you know, should you follow my blog, I have an affinity to old, dilapidated barns. So I appreciate your allowing me, yet again, to share one more image of an old barn. Have a fantastic weekend.
