Autumn Changes

As the weather cools and nights grow longer,
the flowers and plants at Yew Dell Gardens will wither and die,
Fall sets in bringing with it a chill and then a frost,
One final hoorah brings leaves of bright reds and yellows,
And finally, as though in protest, they fall away to the earth.

The sunflowers have wilted and hang dead from their stalks.
The last remains of the pumpkins and ghourds in the garden lay as though forgotten.
The Black Eyed Susans bright yellow pedals are dried and crusty.

Fear not dear friends,
for as Autumn passes through to Winter,
children wonder the lanes gathering candies to eat on All Hallowed's Eve,
tables will be set in earnest with Thanksgiving meals,
Christmas parties will take place throughout the community,
New Year's Eve brings champagne flowing and crystal balls to drop,
the frivolity of the holiday season will prevail. ENJOY!

Can Spring Be Far Away

Can it be that in two short months we'll feel Spring showers and see the first blooms of Spring. I can hardly wait. ENJOY!

Happy 4th of July America!

Black Eyed Susans, Blue Skies and Queen Anne's Lace.

What more could you ask for on a summer day in Kentucky. Unfortunately, this isn't today but weeks ago while on a walk through the wildflower meadow at Bernheim. Today here in Kentucky, it's a rain drenched, dull dreary day for the 4th. Not to worry, the sun will come out again. Happy Fourth Everyone! ENJOY!

The Best of 2012

The year is quickly coming to a close. With a mere several weeks remaining in 2012 and, what with two major holidays at our back doors, I thought it fitting to take a quick look back at 2012 in photos. So many gorgeous flower images came to the forefront as I attempted to create a collage that I felt compelled to feature just flowers in the first Best Of collage and leave the nature and landscapes for another collage later. Featuring images taken from The Great Smoky Mountain National Park in Tennessee to Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky, to Bernheim Arboretum & Research Forest in Clermont, Kentucky, to Mustatatuck National Wildlife Refuge in Seymour, Indiana, I give you The Best of 2012. ENJOY!

Black Eyed Susans, Comic Book Effect

Seriously, I love the Comic Book effect I used on this image of Black Eyed Susan's I photographed many weeks ago in Bernheim. I love yellow flowers no matter what they are, but for some reason certain flowers with the Comic Book effect don't always look so great. Not in this case. They have such a wispy, whimsical feel to them as though they are a drawing. No, I can't draw. So this is the closest I'll ever get to that. I just spent two grueling 95 degree days in and out of the car for work. I'm going to put together a prayer group to pray for cooler weather, if it doesn't cool off soon. ENJOY!

Black Eyed Susans

As opposed to blue eyed Carols. Sorry, I couldn't help crack a joke at this post title. Here's a bit more yellow to brighten your day. Could someone please tell Mother Nature I can't take any more days at 95 degrees and high humidity. If I'd had a knife today, I could have cut the humidity with it. Here's some trivia for you. Did you know there are now 13 states named disaster areas due to the drought? Since I'm running the risk of going from positive to negative, I'll sign off now with . . . ENJOY!

Last Blooms of Summer!

Just a few of the last blooms of summer growing along the old decaying fence at Bernheim recently when I visited. Can't believe that summer is bidding us adieu and fall is knocking at our door. ENJOY!
