Rock Pigeon
A few weeks ago as I first entered Bernheim,on the main road to the cafe, I encountered a Bobwhite Quail which I wrote a post on last week. Today, I decided to drive over to Bernheim early evening and as I entered and was driving along the main road to the cafe, I encountered this Rock Pigeon. And can I say he looked a little bit lost.
He was just casually walking along the edge of the road by himself. It didn't seem to phase him at all when I got out of the car to take a few photos. He walked right up to me. You'll notice his right leg is banded. Not sure who would have done that. Never heard of Bernheim banding birds, but that doesn't mean they don't. None the less, I love the purple iridescent neck and his fluffy white tail feathers. He flew off as I was getting in the car as though something startled him. It was an odd encounter to say the least. Hope your week is going well. ENJOY!

Hi Carol,
ReplyDeleteSomeone in the area there may raise pigeons, that might account for the band and for the pigeon not being upset by your presence. I should pay more attention to Rock Pigeons, their iridescence is beautiful!
Oh, so that is what a rock pigeon looks like. I have read about them, but never had a good look at one. Thank you!
