Lanceleaf Spring Beauty

Every now and then I come across a wildflower that I am not very familiar with. In this case, it was this little beauty. As it turns out that is its name, Spring Beauty or Lanceleaf Spring Beauty. It's Western North American cousin is called Western Spring Beauty.

This dainty little wildflower grows very early in Spring sprouting up through the soil from last Fall's leftovers. In this case, it had peeked up through the grass on the lawn near the water's edge of Old Hickory Lake. I noticed it as I stood capturing images of the Heron Rookery. It really doesn't matter to me what color, shape or size, I am a wildflower lover. I took a few days break from work and am out and about. Perhaps I will take some new images to show you. Back soon. ENJOY!

Wildflowers

Every now and then as we rush about in our busy lives, a scene stops us dead in our tracks. This particular scene is a short distance from my home. Not every year finds this field in full bloom at one time as was the case last year. But I could see from the main highway this year as I drove by that a beautiful sea of yellow wildflowers had completely covered the field this Spring.

This being a small horse farm where in the past many saddlebreds were boarded, I noticed last year there were no horses in this field as have been in years past. I had hoped to see a few this year, but so far I haven't.
Horses aside, there is nothing more beautiful than wildflowers and an old weathered fence. A beautiful sea of yellow wildflowers, a gorgeous old tree, lots of bright sunshine and a blue sky filled with the occasional white fluffy cloud. What a picture for today. Hope you are having a great week. ENJOY!

Wildflower Meadow

A little something to wet your whistle until I get back over to the Wildflower Meadow at Bernheim and take some better photos. So bringing a little bright and sunny into your otherwise hot and humid Monday. Hope everyone is bearing up under the heat wave. Louisville's high was 103 today. UGH! ENJOY!

Goldenrod!

OK, I'm really into the goldenrod right now. Only because I picked the perfect week, several weeks ago now, to photograph the wildflower meadow at Bernheim. The goldenrod was in full bloom. One week later, when I returned last weekend, it was mostly gone. I'm having a love affair with the bird boxes at Bernheim too. Perhaps a series of four of these images as gift cards could be in order. ENJOY!

Wildflower Meadow in Autumn #2

I promised more wildflower meadow images. So here is another one to wet your whistle. This image taken at Bernheim is so beautiful with the white flowers, the yellow goldenrod, the tallgrasses, and of course, that gorgeous beautiful sky. Hope your week is off to a great start. ENJOY!

Wildflower Find!

OK I admit it, I was digging around in my archive tonight trying to come up with something to post. I don't know if I'll get out this weekend. There's another heat advisory for Louisville for Saturday and Sunday. I seldom go out for long when there is a heat advisory as I tend to get heat exhaustion just a little too easily so I err on the safe side. So . . . I'm digging around in my archive. Here's what I found. I photographed this beautiful wildflower growing while I was in the Smokies last summer. Hope you have a wonderful weekend. Enjoy!
