Buds, Woodpecker and a Raccoon!

A hodgepodge of topics today . . . If anyone has any tips on how to get rid of a raccoon who raids my birdfeeder late at night, I could use some help. I tried to shoo him away several times, but he kept returning which I knew he would but for some reason I was compelled to try, try again. Also saw a downy woodpecker today for a brief half a minute. They seldom frequent my birdfeeders. It's usually the red bellied woodpeckers that stop by. And later in the day as I passed my window there were six to seven bright red cardinals on various branches of my tiny tree off my patio. It stopped me dead in my tracks to see so many bright red cardinals all in one place. I've posted an image of a tree with lots of buds hanging off of it I took a while back at Bernheim. I also posted a tricked out version I dropped in Lightroom and was playing around with. Enjoy!

  1. I like that first shot. Do you "adjust" most of your shots? I mostly work on the ones that have good composition, but are not sharp.

  2. I adjust only a few of my shots when it's slide film. I adjust a little more of my shots when it's digital because my digital camera isn't the best.

  3. ....good luck with your raccoon. I have 2 raccoons (and babies last summer) that would wipe me out. I started only putting out half the food in the morning--basically the amount the birds would consume in a day so there wasn't quite as much to eat at night. I also got a pole that hung way out over the deck so there was one feeder he couldn't reach. I've seen people string fishing wire from their house to a tree and hang the feeder in the middle. My inlaws' neighbors have a wire and then pull their feeders in at night. I did the whole "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em thing" too and started photographing them!!
