Yellow Swallowtail

My favorite butterfly is the Swallowtail. I love the soft yellow with the black stripes and the colorful drops at the end of his wings. There were quite a few Swallowtails at Bernheim yesterday. However, the heat wave meant not as many blooming flowers as I would have liked. There was a storm pass through on Saturday morning around 3 a.m., with unbelievable lightning and 60 m.p.h. winds. It managed to knock over one of my favorite flower pots. It's all busted up. But I'm safe and sound. Try to stay cool.

I loved the image of the sunflower so much I had to give it a dedicated spot on my blog for the time being. I think I love the yellow in the sunflower as much as I love the yellow in the Swallowtail. It's such a bright sunny color. How can you not love it. Enjoy!

LITTLE KNOWN FACTS: I have two names, Carol, to my coworkers, clients and friends, and, Carrie, to most of my family. I prefer Carol. JoAnn, my younger sister, refuses to call me anything but Carrie.

  1. You captured this Swallowtail at just the right moment, Carol. Yellow must be attracted to yellow! I'm glad you're using the sunflower in your header. It's very cheerful!

Nice Shot! I've chased a few of them this year myself. This weekend, I was chasing a black swallowtail but no joy.

I think Barb is right. I have seen yellow swallowtails land on yellow a lot.
This is a much nicer butterfly than the tattered ones I have been getting.
